Teenagers Life Coaching Skills Part 3 - Leonard Mudhangu

Guiding teens on Career Coaching
Passion, Persistence, Commitment, Desire and thoughts are some of the
qualities a teenager must have in order to be successful.

One of the subjects that l love and talk about when coaching teenagers is career coaching. Helping teenagers in the work that suits their skills and what they want in life. Many at times, young people face the dilemma of choosing career, because they have seen someone prospering from another job. Sometimes they are pressured by their parents to do a certain job, but they will later discover  that they do not like the profession and they can easily get bored with the Job. A lot of people in this world are doing what they do not like because they made wrong choices from the onset and that may be the reason why they will not succeed in life. They find the jobs boring, hence, no need for determination and eventually will lead to their failure. Let me just try to provide some few tips for coaching a teenager about careers.

1) Passion
Passion is a fuel for success, when you have passion you don’t necessarily get pushed in doing something. You will really do that job out of passion. When you have passion you do not need someone to tell you what time to wake up and go to work. Passion gives you the energy, it drives you to wake up early and start to work on your dream. If you want to go into music, ask yourself this question, am l passionate about this? Passion leads you to success.

2) Your Character determines
Ask yourself if you are the kind of person who is interested in talking to people or not .What kind of a person are you? If you define yourself you will be able to know whether you are an office type, an employee or an outdoor employee. If you do not like associating with a lot of people, then you can either choose to be an accountant or any other job where you do not necessarily work by mixing with a lot of people. If you want to meet people then you can think of outdoor jobs like journalism.

3) What is your area of interest in school?
This is a very important question that any teenager or youth should ask himself if he wants to be successful. Chances are very high if you want to be a doctor or an engineer. If you are not good at mathematics, then these jobs demand a lot of intelligent skills and if you are not good at Maths you will be a bad doctor or engineer. So every profession has its own requirements, you must make
sure you enter or join that profession being able to meet its requirements.

These are some of the skills required when guiding a teenager in choosing a career. I will continue with more of these in my next article. I am one of those people that believe that the best way to build Africa is by coaching young people to be great leaders of tomorrow. Great leaders means great Africa. l am proud to be African.
